2002 News Below - 2003 Update due 8/20/2003 _________________________ Update and FAQ's September 18, 2002 We've had a WONDERFUL response to the event this year! Thanks to everyone for registering early! People from many different industry partners have already registered or expressed interest. Some of the confirmed and invited come from Northrop Grumman, GMR, GTSI, GovConnection, SGI, EMC, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Veritas, Brocade, Legato, DataDirect, Marzik, ADIC, ATL, StorageTek, and others. Here is a snapshot of activity on the OSIAW web site: Daily Totals for mmorris.com: We are now FIRM for October 14 at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Maryland. Due to the early response, we now have arranged for a shotgun start at 12:30 sharp for up to 60 people (30 pairs). Directions and maps will be emailed to all registered guests in early October. It may be possible to get more than 60 slots if we need to, but it is important to register now if you are at all interested. FAQ's: How do I know my credit card info is safe? PayPal processes all the credit card transactions using SSL. For the 6 months ending 6/30/02, they had $102.5 mil in revenue and a profit of $1.8 mil. Since they keep only about 3% of each transaction, that is a lot of money they have processed. I never get to see your credit card number, so no, this is not a scam to finance an exotic vacation for myself. I want to be grouped with 1 or more. How can I do that? When you register your payment information, there is a text field for you to enter pairing or grouping requests. Since under 30% of the registered guests have requested groupings, it should not be a problem to accommodate everyone, even if you and others in your party register on different dates. The only limitation is the number of persons in the entire event. I can't golf / I can't make it, but I'd like to contribute to the charity: First, this is a really casual event. While each year we do get some great golfers, many of us are just hackers. I'm so bad that last year I gave up playing right handed, and went to left handed! Second, if you cannot make or play in the event and would like to make a charitable contribution, you can either visit www.alsa.org and contribute that way, or give me the funds on the day of the event and I'll make the contribution for you with the rest of the benefit. If you will attend but not play, please contact me so I can arrange for your lunch only. What is the refund policy? You will get a 100% refund if you need to cancel prior to September 20. In fact, your credit card will not be charged until September 20. It will only show a reduction in the available credit. In the event of prohibitive weather on the day of the event, you will also get a 90% refund. How come my credit card has not been charged yet? The PayPal service requires that all charges be accepted or denied within 30 days of the transaction. We are not billing any charges until September 20, only approving charges. You will want to show up early since use of the driving range and pitching area is included. Problems using PayPal? Send a Check for $100 per person to Jon Teunis, 306 Copper Oaks Drive, Woodsboro, MD, 21798 Date: Confirmed for 10/14 (Columbus Day). Place: Confirmed - Worthington Manor in Urbana, MD. www.worthingtonmanor.com Time: Lunch and then out to the course. Shotgun Start at 12:30 Driving range, putting green, and lunch prior to start. Format: Captain's Choice (cheating is not only tolerated, but encouraged) Demographics: Industry people who need a well deserved day off. Remember - your customers are closed on Columbus Day. Everyone else is at the O.S.I.A.W. - no customers. Groupings: See in the FAQ's above. Currently we anticipate no issues with grouping requests. Contests: Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Low Score, First Annual Fred Morris Award (lowest score switching from right to left/left to right at the turn). Prizes: None. It's a real pain to give out prizes that no one really wants anyway. If you want a logo freebie, check your buddy's trunk. Business Talk: Not allowed. No recruiting or poaching either. We are reaching out to the boys from Quantum/ATL this year, but the need to behave. :) Charity Beneficiary: ALS Foundation (Lou Geherig's Disease) www.alsa.org Fees: $100 Includes greens fees, cart, driving range, practice green, with the balance donated to charity. Detailed financials will be posted on the OSIAW web after the event. www.mmorris.com/osiaw/finance We will send out pairing details by October 4. SIGN UP NOW! We'll follow up with an email. If you have ideas that you think would make the outing better... keep them to yourself or have your own tourney. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the course!
